The idea was to turn a 1950s office building into a flexible community centre. MAAPS solution was to design a space that provide a level of cross-pollination amongst different activities and age groups. We applied open staircases and random-appearing internal windows to do this, as well as bring light and air into the heart of the building. Successful planning application was contingent upon adequately addressing flood risk and refitting the building with additional stairs/ways out and significant new carpark planning.
